Happy Christmas, Fred

The Cost of Birthing the Christ

In this reflection on the Christmas Story from the Gospel of Matthew, Fred shares what the experience of God might have been like for Mary and Joseph. “All-wise. All-powerful. All-loving. All-knowing. We bore to death both God and ourselves with our chatter. God is not to be expressed, only experienced.”
– Frederick Buechner

Stay Awake

In Matthew 24:42 Jesus commands us to “Stay Awake.” What if he means “Don’t be so preoccupied with what might happen in the future that you miss what is going on around you Right Now?” In this reflection, Fred continues to share on the theme of how we might work to help make the invisible God visible.

Well, Retirement Didn’t Last Very Long

Fred Grewe is our Intentional Interim Pastor at First Congregational Church, United Church of Christ, in Ashland, Oregon!
A recently Retired Board-Certified Chaplain (Association of Professional Chaplains) Fred holds a Doctor of Ministry degree from the Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley, and a master’s degree from the Aquinas Institute of Theology in St. Louis. Fred has written several peer reviewed articles and has presented workshops at numerous regional and national conferences on death and dying. His first book, “What the Dying have Taught Me about Living,” was published by Pilgrim Press.
Pastor Fred is lovingly supported by his wife Nancy and their two poodles, Shanti and Tootsie. Fred believes he is a mystery – even to himself. Although he jokingly describes himself simply as an aging, bald, white man, Fred believes God loves him (and everyone else) very much. He is convinced that the power of this belief has helped transform him from being a frightened, angry, little man into a more loving and considerate human being.
Fred’s workdays are Wednesdays through Sundays. His phone number is 541-631-1084 and his email address is minister@ashlandpeacechurch.org
